December's Health Tip - BC Health Guide

My health tip for this newsletter, is to encourage everyone of my readers to obtain a copy of the new edition of the BC Health Guide. Available for free at your local pharmacy or Government Agents Office, this book is full of reliable health information and advice on hundreds of health topics and tips for self-treatment. Its content is valuable in helping you to both work to prevent illness and to know what action to take should an illness occur.
Right from its first two pages with its Self-Care Checklist and Ask the Doctor Checklist, the Health Guide is full of valuable health care tools. The content of this book addresses the full gamut of health issues, from first aid to mental health or from ageing to nutrition. Whether you want to know about prescription drugs side effects or what your BMI (Body Mass Index) is, the Health Guide will give you the answer.

There is a whole section of the Health Guide that deals with complementary medicine such as acupuncture, massage, herbal therapy etc. While it is cautious in its approach it does acknowledge many positive results being experienced by those who use this venue to health.
There is also a website for the BC Health Guide. Here you can not only access the Health Guide online but also find out about and access, BC Health Files and the BC Nurse Line. BC Health Files will provide you with easy to understand fact sheets on various health concerns. The BC Nurse Line toll free number provides 24-hour confidential health information by a registered nurse as well as pharmacist information from 5 PM to 9 AM daily.
In conclusion, I think the greatest benefit to be gained from acquiring the BC Health Guide and visiting their web site, is the vast amount of information offered in plain and easy to understand language. With so much fear and anxiety attached to issues of health these days, this valuable book can not only help to counteract this negative trend but also empower us to make informed and intelligent health decisions.
