The
work of Carl Jung figures prominently in a lot of your printed material.
What is the connection between his work and yours? |

This Month's Response:I
first started reading Carl Jung in the late seventies.
At the time, the university in Nelson had just closed but its library
was still available to the public. It's there that I came across
a complete set of volumes of his writings. I was fascinated by what
I'd found and immersed myself in the study of these books at every
possible opportunity. He put into words ideas and feelings that
I'd intuitively known but had yet to comprehend. It was his thoughts
that inspired me to explore the inner process within myself and
then helped me to realize that I had a passion for working with
others in assisting them on this journey. Carl Jung was the first
that really helped me make sense of this inner landscape and gave
meaning to the processes involved. |

Though
few of us realize it, we owe Carl Jung a lot in terms of our understanding
of human nature. He was directly or indirectly involved in many aspects
of inner life from Alcoholics Anonymous to personality tests, from the
development of the lie detector to the interpretation of dreams. Terms
such as "introvert/extrovert," "the unconscious,"
"the shadow" and "projections" either originated with
or were reintroduced into modern consciousness by him.
Since first encountering Carl Jung, almost thirty years ago, I've taken every opportunity I've had to immerse myself in his work, both through the study of his writings as well as through attending to teachers influenced by him, such as James Hillman, Marion Woodman, Caroline Myss, Robert Bly and Michael Meade. These and many more have all provided guidance along the way.
Carl Jung's work has given me both a vision of what the soul is constantly calling for and solid ground on which to stand while exploring this territory. I am eternally grateful that he had both the courage and a generosity of spirit to share the hard earned knowledge and wisdom that he had gained.
